by Ali Imel, Trainer

I had the opportunity to train a bit with Sierra (one of the dogs in our prison program) last weekend.
Unlike humans, dogs typically don’t generalize behaviors very well. Simply put this means that just because Sierra can do a beautiful down stay at the prison with her daily trainer(s) doesn’t mean she will be able to do it at a shopping mall with a unfamiliar trainer. She will need to relearn all her training in every imaginable environment. That’s why the next training phase (Public Access) of Doc’s Dogs for Vets is so important. In May will start training out and about town. If you’d like to learn more about the training process and help out with future service dog training contact Doc’s Dogs for Vets today!
